#Adelaide Central Market Watch 3.5.12





































Fruit and Veg

There is talk the price of bananas is set to drop in the next few weeks due to bumper crops in Qld. This week the banana price at Pick-Me-Fresh, S30/31 is $2.99kg, celery and bunches of leeks are $2.50 each and seedless grapes are $1.99kg. McMahons, S41, has sweet imperial mandarines for $3.99kg, jazz apples are $5.99kg, QLD blue and Jap pumpkins are both $3.99kg. Cactus, S6, always has such a fantastic display of great produce. This week quinces are $4.99kg, limes are four for $2, yellow pawpaw is $7.99kg, golden shallots are $11.99kg and bintje and kipfler potatoes are both $4.99kg. Fred McMahon, S12 has the full range of locally grown pears, including corella $5.99kg, nashi $4.99, beurre bosc and packham pears both $3.99kg.



Meat and Poultry



Vegas, S62, has struck gold with my teenage kids. Try their home crumbed free range

chicken fillet schnitzels for $16.99kg, Fry gently in a little olive oil and butter, then finish off in the oven and serve with a great mayonnaise and salad. Wild Oz, S55 has smoked crocodile fillet for $4.50 per 100gms and BBQ  plum marinated kangaroo fillt for $9.99kg. Feast Fine Foods, S15 has all the new season Saskia Beer poultry lines this week including fresh pheasant ($39.00kg) and whole corn -fed free range goose for $32.99kg.

My favourite are the plump glace figs, lavishly enrobed in dark Belgian chocolate. $8.40 per 100gms at Lucia's Fine Foods.
